Essay 26: Why do employees feel more stressed than before?
Nowadays, many people have to work a long time, and they feel more stressed than before. What are the reasons? What can employers do to make their life easier?
Nowadays, employees are working longer hours than ever before, and they are feeling more stressed as a result. There are several reasons for this trend i.e. Competitive job market, low wages, and unpleasant job environment. Employers can ease their life by offering flexible work hours, support packages, and a positive working environment.
First, the job market is competitive, so people are afraid to take time off from work. They not only work during traditional work hours and on weekends and during their free time. Consequently, they are more tired and tense. Business owners can alleviate this situation by giving their workers more flexibility. This means that employees can work from home or they can work flexible hours. This would give them more time to relax and recharge their batteries.
Second, people are not getting paid enough to support their families. Owing to inflation and spike in living costs, they have to work extensively and do extra shifts that can impact their health negatively. Owners need to observe the minimum wage policy and introduce incentives like low-rent housing facilities and subsidized loans so that employees can get enough of their regular hours. As a result, they can earn a decent living without stressing themselves.
Third, employees feel dissatisfied at their job place. This is to say, when the credit and incentive are not given to the due person and his hard work goes unnoticed, the employee may feel disowned and demoralized. Employers can create a conducive working environment where employees may feel valued and appreciated. This can be achieved by rewarding hardworking employees with due credit and giving the workforce ownership of the tasks entrusted to them. This way the workers would feel more autonomous and enjoy their work.
To conclude, there is a stressful conditions for employees as they work longer hours to earn
a reasonable income and survive in challenging work environments. However, this congested situation can be relaxed to some extent by offering flexible work hours, empowering workers financially, and giving them autonomy in how to complete the assigned tasks.
